Fertility Preservation

There are a multitude of reasons why a person may choose to preserve their future fertility, but what does this mean exactly? This includes the freezing of either: eggs, sperm, or embryos (combination of eggs and sperm).

Depending on each individual case, Ceibo Fertility will guide you in this process.

Sperm Freezing

Sperm Freezing

Sperm freezing is a fairly easy and largely successful method of fertility preservation for males who have passed puberty.

Semen collection done by masturbation is usually done in a private room at a sperm bank facility, or arrangements are made for the patient to bring a sample collected at home into the lab.

Egg Freezing

The process of egg freezing is typically divided into 2 stages,

(1) testing and preparing for the process followed by (2) approximately 2 weeks of treatment.

Treatment includes daily injections with very close monitoring by both bloodwork and ultrasound concluded with the extraction of the eggs during the egg retrieval procedure.

Embryo Freezing

Embryo freezing is similar to egg freezing in that the woman must undergo approximately 2 weeks of treatment and have her eggs extracted.

The difference is that those eggs are then injected with sperm and grown in the IVF laboratory. If they meet all the necessary milestones, they are then frozen for future use.

Whether to freeze eggs or embryos can be a big decision, and one we will walk you through thoughtfully at Ceibo Fertility Center.
